Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 1:13)

Thursday Night Notes

fooled you!!!

I knew I would be unable to go out preaching tomorrow, so I decided to squeeze in an hour and a half of street preaching tonight. I left my wife and children at our church Bible Club and made my way downtown with some Gospel tracts and a Bible sign. The market isn't as busy on Thursdays as it is on Fridays, but I still presented the Gospel to hundreds of souls. God be praised.

The response to my preaching was definitely more favorable than normal. Several people thanked me for offering them a tract and one woman walked up to me and said that she loved the verse on my sign (it was John 3:16). I gave out a fair number of tracts tonight, so please pray, dear saints of God, that the Lord will save!

I only spoke to two souls during my 90 minute blitz: a man named Jason, and a woman named Nicole. Jason introduced himself as a Christian who worked with "Inner-City Ministries". If memory serves, this ministry is pretty wishy-washy doctrinally, and how many true Christians are involved with it is a really good question. We did have a good conversation and Jason said, as he walked away, that he hoped to speak to me again soon. Soon after, I met Nicole. She was walking out of a pub when she noticed my Bible sign. She stopped in front of me and read John 3:36 to herself. She asked me if a lot of people read my sign and when I responded with an affirmative, she said: "well, that's good."

The Lord use what I was able to do tonight as He sees fit, and may He be glorified. Please remember pastor Tim tomorrow, dear brothers and sisters-in-the-Lord, as he will most likely go preach in the market himself. I will be hours away, on a special date with my tender-half... we will be celebrating our wedding anniversary.

Take care, and God bless you all, dear readers.

sick...

I'm afraid there will be no Friday Night Notes this week... a nasty virus is afflicting both my wife and I... it's bad enough to keep me from my evangelistic endeavour.

Please pray for me, dear saints, as I am scheduled to preach on the Lord's Day. I really need to get over the worst of this cold.

God bless you,

Rand

Too cold!!!

that... and a bit of news...

We didn't go out for our usual night of Street Preaching... the title gives the reason why.

It's -23 Celsius as I am writing this post (that's -11 Fahrenheit for my American readers), and that's just ridiculously cold!

So both pastor Tim and I have taken the night off. Please pray that the Lord will give us warmer weather next week so that we could, once again, preach the Gospel of Jesus in the highways and byways of our city.

God bless you, dear readers,

Rand

Ps: for those of you who haven't heard yet, Twinklemoose, my better half, is pregnant. My father has renamed me "Abraham"... "for a father of many nations will I be."

Congrats! If I haven' lost count, that makes a quartet, right?

    Hopefully... it'll be a quartet.

Congratulations, Rand. As a single person, I can only have admiration for those who devote so much for the good of their children. Being the sinner I am, I must admit that I find children taxing. I always feel drained, no matter how well-behaved they are!

May the Lord bless you and your wife.

    Friday Night Notes

    oh yeah... I'm a wuss...

These are the little wonders I mentioned in my last Friday Notes. Did I mention that I LOVED THEM! 'Cause I do. Alot. For the first time in January, I walked away from our customary three hours of street preaching without the pain and discomfort of frozen toes and fingers. I still felt somewhat cold (it was -18 C or 0 F), but the combination of exercise and the heat packs kept us going in relative comfort. Brother Marcel... you asked me about this packs last week... well... I believe I will have a gift for you at the end of the month when we both see each other for the annual business meeting.

Pastor Tim first mocked me when he saw me breaking out the heat packs; he insinuated that I was a wussy (I really should bring this up at our next church meeting... I think discipline is in order). For the record though, when I offered him an extra pair of heat packs that I brought with me, he didn't turn them down; and after two hours of street preaching, he said he was pretty impressed by my little wonders. Wussy... hah!

Anyway, we preached and distributed Gospel literature from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the marketplace tonight to a somewhat larger crowd than last week. The market was still fairly quiet, but still hundreds of souls heard something of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We didn't give out to many tracts and had but a few short conversations... which is what usually happens when the temperature drops down near -20 C (-4 F).

I did have a short conversation with two young men who were quite impressed that the Gospel tract I was handing out was written by my pastor. They each took a tract and thanked me for being there. I also spoke to a young man who walked up to me and asked:

    "Do you do this often?"

    "Every Friday night," I answered.

"Every Friday!" the young man exclaimed. "For how long?"

"About three hours, usually from 7 pm to 10 pm," I again answered.

"That's a lot of devotion," the man remarked whilst walking away.

"Well, the Lord has been good to us," I replied.

A short time later, I saw a young couple looking over our 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. They were both quite offended by it (never ceases to amaze me how the Scriptures are an affront and a scandal to carnal men and women). The man with a shocked look on his face said:

"What? Is that really in the Bible?"

I shouted the Scripture reference to the man and told him he should look it up. Unimpressed, both souls walked away.

Just before leaving the market, I saw Dave, a student that worked in my lab this summer (my secular job). I don't think seeing me with a Bible sign in my hand shocked Dave all that much since everyone at my work is well aware of my Friday night activities. That said, the young lady who was accompanying Dave didn't seem all that impressed with me, so I didn't keep him. I still kind of wish I would have spoken to him of the Gospel...

Our night of evangelism done, pastor Tim and I walked back to his place for a short time of prayer where I prayed for safety on the way back home, and I thank the Lord my God for His protection. Black ice covered all the major streets and I drove by two multi-car-pile-ups. At one point, I had to break pretty suddenly and the car behind me came real near to hitting me. It was quite a drive back.

That's the notes for tonight. Thank you again, dear readers for keeping up with my street preaching adventures. Dear saints of God, I still covet your prayers.

    God bless you this weekend,

    Rand

    Hi Rand

I am happy that a "wussy" had brought a "hard-on-his-body" pastor to reason.;-)

I will be very happy to accept these little wonders. These kind of gift is always appreciated when you feel every week the pain and discomfort of frozen hands and feet. I have never used myself to pass tracts with gloves on. So I put a glove in one hand and hand out tract with the other hand without glove.

It will be a very real pleasure to see you all at the church annual meeting.

    GOD BLESS!

    Friday Night Notes

    a very quiet night...

The marketplace was like a ghost town tonight; hardly a soul to preach the Gospel to.

I suppose the usual crowd of revelers that walk the streets of the market were all partied out from the Christmas and New Year parties. It felt a bit strange to preach to the Gospel to so few souls, but I'm still glad I went; there are over 100 souls tonight who heard the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's a hundred more than had I not gone out to preach!

Due to the small crowds, very few tracts were handed out, and one-on-one conversations were few and far between. Pastor Tim and I both dealt with drunkards who's lives were a total mess, and sadly, were also coming to an end. These drunkards who spend there time begging for money downtown... what a sad, sad bunch. I think the last part of Proverbs 13:15 sums it up best:

"...the way of transgressors is hard."

We also had some witness with some young people. Nothing to positive though. For example, a group of young people tried to smash our 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 sign. They took off when they saw me coming. Then I dealt with another young man who mockingly asked me to "enlighten him". I told him that there was no way I could do that, only the Lord could give him the light of life. He walked away while continuing to mock me. The Lord be merciful to him.

I did have a good exchange with a young Muslim. He took one of my tracts and told me that he also believed in Jesus; the jesus of the Qu'ran that is. I told him that the Jesus of the Bible was quite different than the jesus of the Qu'ran. He agreed. I then told him that if the Lord Jesus didn't save him in this life, the Lord would condemn him in his sin. He again agreed (which sort of surprised me). We wished each other a "happy New Year" and he went back to the pub he had walked out of. The Lord open his eyes and show him that Jesus is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life!

And that's the notes for tonight, dear readers. It was a pretty quiet night, so not too much to report.

Actually I will add this: I've discovered that those "heat packs" that are sold at sport shops up here in Canada are GREAT! My wife somehow got her hands on one of these and gave it to me before going out into the cold night. I followed the instructions, activated the pack and placed it in one of my boots. That little thing kept my foot warm all night long! The only problem is that I only had one so I had to occasionally transfer the pack from one boot to the other to keep both feet warm. Next week, I'm getting myself a bag full of the little wonders!

Have a blessed weekend, dear readers.
